Final Project

Final Project:
For my final, I wanted to portray people, via diptychs and triptychs, in a way that showed their personality as well as their face. My grandma-the artist, my mom-the crafty one in the family, My dad-the redneck hunter, my friend-the hair-doer, Lauren-the one who only does what music tells her to do, and me-the one who is constantly hiding who I really am from most of the world. I really loved doing this project, none of the pictures really turned out the way I wanted them, but in the end, I am mostly satisfied with the way they turned out. My favorite is the one with my grandma. I really appreciated this shoot for a couple of reasons: I got to take pictures of those I loved before the opportunity was gone, and I got an excuse to take a picture of my mom-she NEVER lets me take pictures of her, and has literally gotten MAD at me before for taking her picture.

Diptych Assignment

I loved this assignment. I really wanted to tell a story with my diptych, and it's a story that really reminds me of certain people lately. It was so easy to be inspired for this assignment and I really enjoyed it. My new friend that I met in the last assignment said she would model for me when we took her black and white portrait. YAY for new friends who are willing to model. WHEN, not if, I do it again I will take more prep and time to make sure every picture is perfect. If I do another shot in the dark I am going to hook my camera up to my computer so I can tell immediately if the picture ends up being blurry, thus enabling me to redo the picture. I felt like I had some really great shots for this assignment but some of them were too blurry, and it was something that I couldn't see immediately on the 2 inch LCD.

Black and White Portrait Assignment

Someone I knew: I knew my grandma and it was so hard for me to get her to smile in more pictures because she said she looked so old in the other pictures
Meet Kasey: She is a relative of my sister-in-laws dad and it was so cool getting to know her. Biking is their family's pastime and taking these pictures was so fun.
I learned a lot from this experience and learned that making black and white images is actually more difficult than making regular color shots. In order to get all the contrast and clarity right without messing with it in lightroom takes a lot of work.

Assignment #5- Color Portraits

Grandma Dansie has Myasthenia Gravis disease and always has tears in her eyes that are near to blinding.
This is something our family knows her by.
"Just because you're going blind doesn't mean you have to stop creating something."
Me being something I'm not-tall.
Me being something I'm not-well I'm not a potato... duh.

Me being someone I'm not-someone who doesn't mind their ears being touched.

This assignment was so great for me. I absolutely love portraits anyways, and this was great for me because I was forced to find someone I didn't know, and I realized how important social networking really is. Also it was so great to take pictures of my grandma before she possibly passes away. Every picture has a story, and I think every story should be documented via photography.

Ear Touching Outtakes.

I was supposed to act calm for the shoot of someone touching my ear (to be someone that I wasn't) but the first time I couldn't keep a straight face. It was bad. I absolutely hated it haha. But what doesn't kill you makes you stronger.... right?

Assignment #4- Color Theory

These assignments continually force me to think outside of the box and try and think creatively and it is always an experience that you can be grateful for. For this assignment I realized just how colorful food can be. It was actually pretty interesting. This color assignment along with the color assignment I just endured in 2d design enabled me to realize the importance of emphasizing different colors and making nice compositions with colors that look good together. PS I dont think I have ever cooked this much for a photo assignment.

Assignment #3 HIgh/Low Key

THIS IS WHAT KELSI THINKS:

WHAT THE CAMERA SAYS:

I tried to make this assignment as creative as possible; and I feel I might have overdone it. I just wanted to tell stories in a couple of them and I don't know if it came acros as a story. However, working with bracketing taught me that sometimes the camera doesn't always know best. Sometimes you need to defy that magic little ruler at the bottom of the screen. Overall, this assignment gave me the reason to experiment a little more.

Assignment #2-Numbers

Zero

Ten

Thirteen

Fifteen

Seventeen

Forty-Two

Fifty-Three

This project provided an educational experience for me because I was able to control how many pictures I take and focus on taking minimal, good quality pictures instead of taking a high quantity of not-so-great images. It really forced me to take my time during the shot and make sure everything was just right before I shot. It was also a test of patience as I had to search for numbers or think of creative ways to portray things.
